Cole Redding Shares Emotional "Father Father" Music Video

Do you have your phone nearby? Yes? OK, good. Because this Cole Redding's emotional new single, "Father Father" will make you want to pick it up and call your dad ASAP. And so will the music video, which you can watch above.

"Father Father" is an extremely personal song for Cole, as it is inspired by the relationship he has with his own father after his family's dynamic was shattered following his parents' divorce. The music video shows Cole tearfully watching old home movies of himself as a child with his dad, doing various things together like decorating the Christmas tree, learning to rollerblade, having fun at the beach, and more.

The official visual for the single follows Redding's "Father Father" lyric video, which features photos of Cole as a child, with his father, as well as drawings, as the lyrics are written out on notepads.

In the song lyrics, Cole is asking about how his father's new life has affected their relationship as he sings, "Oh, now I'm not sure just where it stands/Are we even friends?/Have we grown so far apart/that this is how it ends?" But, in the chorus, Redding tells his father that "now is the time" to work things out. He sings, "Father father/If you hear the words unspoken/then you know what's on my mind/Father, mother, sister, brother/We should be here for each other/Father father now's the time."

Cole tells iHeartRadio exclusively of the song, "I was hesitant to let people in to this part of my life, but I think it's too important of a story not to share. Writing this song allowed me to make sense of the challenging relationship I have with my dad. If it inspires one person to rekindle their relationship with a loved one, then I've accomplished what I set out to do."

Cole's new single fits right into the theme of his just-completed debut album, titled Nothing Left Unsaid. The Philadelphia native, whose influences include Elton John, Holland Dozier Holland, and the Beatles, promises the LP to be autobiographical. He says, "This album is the story of my life, the good the bad and the ugly, at times it has felt like a long dark tunnel but I have come out the other side with nothing left unsaid."

Speaking of "nothing left unsaid," over the span of several years, rock icon Jon Bon Jovi has become a fan of Cole's. Redding and Jon have written together, shared the stage at New York Fashion Week, and Cole even recording his album at Jon's home studio. Jon has said of Cole, "Cole Redding is an emerging artist with a great voice and something to say."
