On Friday (May 10), Britney Spears made an appearance at a courthouse in downtown Los Angeles for a private hearing in which the star's “issues with medical care,” minor children and trade secrets were discussed, according to her attorney. Sources told PEOPLE the singer, who entered through the building's back entrance with her mother, Lynne Spears, looked "comfortable, happy and glowing," despite the presence of #FreeBritney protesters in the courtyard.
Inside the hearing, which was closed off to reporters and the public as it detailed Spears' medical condition, reportedly involved the 37-year-old requesting "certain freedoms" under her conservatorship, which remains controlled by her father, Jamie, who has been the permanent conservator of her affairs since 2008. The judge, however, dismissed the request, and evidently ordered the 37-year-old to undergo an "expert evaluation."
The news comes two weeks after the "Break the Ice" artist completed her 30-day stay at an "all-encompassing wellness facility" for her mental health. Since completing treatment, the songbird has been making improvements to be in a much better mental state, though doctors were still concocting a formula of medications that would stabilize her, as the old mix of medications could have triggered her mental health crisis.
To date, Spears is said to be "doing really well." Even so, as we previously reported, Lynne filed paperwork on May 6 to be informed of "all matters which special notice may be requested" pertaining to her daughter's conservatorship.
"Britney is still adjusting to medications. It’s a difficult situation for her and Lynne is in L.A. to help," a Spears family insider told PEOPLE. "Lynne wants to be more involved in Britney’s care because she is her mom. If there is something more they can do for Britney, Lynne wants to make sure Britney gets that help.”
Lynne isn't the only family member sticking by Britney's side. The superstar's younger sister, Jamie Lynn, also came to Britney's defense when a user accused the Zoey 101 alum of faking her support on Instagram out of "fear of losing your allowance."
“Haha nice try, but I have NEVER been paid a dime from my sister," Jamie hit back. "That is HER hard earned money, and I am NOT entitled to a cent of it. I would no spend money I did not earn."
