Camila Cabello Reveals Why She's 'Tight-Lipped' About Shawn Mendes Romance

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes might have had a PDA-filled summer with several public outings, but the former wants to remain tight-lipped about the romance, as per her October cover story for Elle magazine.

On Thursday (September 5), the pop chart-topper's interview dropped and it saw her speak candidly about their romance. Asked if she thought that their secrecy created more buzz around the two, the Fifth Harmony alum replied with uncertainty. "I don't know; people can say whatever they want to say," she said. "They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it, and fall for each other like nobody is watching. That is how I want to live. I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved. Like I said, I want it to be mine and [his]. That's why I'm so tight-lipped about it: because I want to protect it."

Even though Cabello will stay quiet about Mendes, her still-untitled new album will contain several truths about falling in love for the first time and finding herself. "There was a time when I was listening to these songs that I had to turn the album off. I had to let go emotionally—I sat there and cried so much. I feel an undeniable truth that the album has captured the essence of me at this point in my life," she explained. "I always think, 'Could I be more honest? Could I be more open?' I feel like I’ve done that even better than on my first album. It feels like when I'm 80 years old, I'll look back and think, 'Wow, I remember this time; I remember how I felt. I remember that night. I remember that moment.' It's pictures of my life—I love it."

Cabello, who just released two new singles, is one of the three stars Elle has highlighted for their Women in Music issue, Billie Eilish and Lizzo appear on additional covers.

In related news, Cabello is performing at this year's iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in September alongside a lineup of superstar artists. Fans across the country can tune in and watch an exclusive live stream of the show via The CW App and CWTV.com.
